Mumbai hosts the semi-finals of India’s first hairdresser talent competition- Streax professional Times India Hair Style Icon

The West Zone Semi Finals of Streax Professional Times India Hair Style Icon 2022 were held at The Times Tower in Mumbai on August 13. From thousands of entries that came from the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat. Madhya Pradesh and Goa; top 50 hairstylists were selected for this leg.

Contestants were bifurcated into three different time slots and asked to select a category from creative colour (female), commercial cut & colour (male / female), red carpet up-style. Accordingly, each semi-finalist was asked to perform within the respective time period and process parameters.

 Each hairstylist was accompanied by a muse, who was judged by an eclectic panel of jury comprising celebrity stylist Savio John Perreira, actor Chahat Khanna, Natasha Grover (National Director, Miss India Organisation), and technical judges from Streax Professional.

The winners used a mix of the Hold & Play Funky Colors and the Argan Secrets hair color from the Streax Professional range. After 12 hours of performances and a gruelling post event evaluation; the winners were announced.

Devyani Deshmukh and Diptika Ingle from Mumbai made it to the finals that were held at Bombay Times Fashion Week in Mumbai on October 2. They have moved closer to winning Rs.5 lakh cash and a trip to attend Paris Fashion Week.

Jason B (Goa), Payal Mali and Nidhi Shah of Mumbai made it to the Zonal runners up, each winning a cash prize of Rs.25,000.

“This is such a great initiative; hair stylists never get their due in the industry even though their contribution is immense. Some of the talent I saw here made it tough to judge and pick. All the best to the finalists and congratulations to the winners”, said Chahat Khanna.

Finalist Divyani Deshmukh gushed, “This competition is a much-needed platform that offers a freedom of creativity and artistry. It was much needed.”

Another finalist, Diptika Ingle said, “The experience has been one of a kind. I am so excited to be the finalist and am grateful to the organisers for this opportunity.”
